How to Manage Multiple Subjects and Keep Accurate Records in Your Homeschool

December 10, 20243 min read

Homeschooling multiple subjects while keeping track of your child’s grades, attendance, and academic progress can feel like a juggling act. Add multiple kids to the equation, and it can become overwhelming quickly. But with the right systems in place, it’s possible to stay on top of everything and make the process more efficient.

The Struggle with Managing Multiple Subjects and Multiple Kids

When homeschooling multiple children across different grade levels, each with his/her own set of subjects and needs, keeping up with grades and progress for each one can feel like a never-ending challenge. On top of that, you may also need to track time/days worked and ensure compliance with state requirements. It can be a lot to handle, especially when you're doing it all on your own.

But it doesn’t have to be difficult!

Fresh Strategies for Managing Homeschool Records with Multiple Kids

Here are some strategies to help you keep track of your child’s work across multiple subjects and children:

  1. Create Individual Binders or Folders for Each Child
For each child, create a dedicated binder and/or digital folder to keep their assignments, tests, and grades organized by subject. This makes it easy to track each child’s progress individually without the risk of mixing up their work. You can also include attendance logs, report cards, and progress charts for each child.

  2. Weekly Homeschool Planner for All Kids
A weekly planner helps you keep track of what all your children are working on each day. You can create a simple chart that outlines subjects and tasks for each child, ensuring that everyone stays on track. At the end of the week, you can transfer this information to their permanent records. You can also check out the
Wiser Lesson Plans that I developed. You can generate the entire year's plans at once or plan as you go!

  3. Daily Checklists for Each Child
Create a checklist of tasks for each child for the day, breaking down what subjects they need to cover. This makes it easier for both you and your children to know exactly what needs to be done. Plus, it gives your children the freedom to check things off as they go, promoting independence. Again, my
Wiser Lesson Plans can be a great way to generate these checklists each week!

  4. Portfolio Tracking for Different Kids
For subjects that don’t have straightforward grades (like projects or hands-on learning), consider creating portfolios for each child. This allows you to keep track of their work and growth over time, showing their achievements and helping you evaluate their progress without feeling overwhelmed by traditional grading systems.

  5. Visual Tracking for Multiple Kids
Using charts or graphs, you can visually track your children’s progress across subjects. The built-in graphs in Wiser Gradebook+ (more info below) are a great way to see where each child is excelling or needs more support.

Managing multiple kids, subjects, and records is no small task, but with our WISER GRADEBOOK + attendance tracking, it’s much easier.

The workbook lets you:

  • Track grades, attendance, and progress for multiple children in one central location.

  • Easily calculate GPA and averages for each child across multiple subjects.

  • Stay compliant with state reporting requirements for each child, ensuring you’re not overwhelmed by paperwork.

With customizable options for different grade levels and subjects, you can tailor the workbook to meet your family’s unique needs. It’s a tool that grows with your homeschool, allowing you to stay organized year after year.

Because our kids deserve better,
